Tue–Fri: 10 AM – 4 PM
Sat: 10 AM – 2 PM
Plus 2 hours before each performance for in-person sales
Closed on statutory holidays.

How do I pick seats?

Click directly on the coloured seats on the map, then click Continue. Prices and ticket types are displayed below the seating map for reference. You can confirm or edit your tickets in the next step.

How do I add dining?

After selecting theatre tickets, you’ll be prompted to add dining to your order if it’s available that day. You can also call later to add dining if you skipped it during checkout.

Do I need an account to buy tickets?

No, but creating an account gives you quick access to your tickets, an easy view of past orders, and a way to store special needs or requests. It also helps us contact you if there’s an issue with your booking. Your information is kept private and secure.

Should I purchase in advance?

Yes. Performances often sell out, and the best seats are booked early.

Can I dine without seeing a show?

Yes! The Playbill Dining Room is open to everyone. Advance bookings are required by calling the Box Office: 250-246-9820

Do you offer discounts?

There are a variety of discount options every season:

  • Economy Seats: Starting at $23 (limited availability – see Seating Plan)
  • Preview Performances: Starting at $23 (general admission seating)
  • Youth (18 & under): 50% off Premium & Standard seating (*Note: Min age is 4 years for Mainstage shows, except KidzPlay and Relaxed Performances)
  • Post-secondary students: 40% off with valid student ID
  • Relaxed Performances: $28 for Premium & Standard seats
  • Groups (10+ adults): 15% off
  • Canadian Actors’ Equity Members: up to 40% off with ID
  • Subscriptions: up to 20% savings when you buy multiple shows

What are Getaway Packages?

Turn your visit into a getaway with a night’s stay in a well-appointed suite-style hotel room at the award-winning Best Western Plus Chemainus Inn.  Enjoy a complimentary full breakfast, high-speed internet, an indoor pool, exercise centre, and convenient parking only blocks away from the Theatre – all at a special rate for Theatre patrons. What food and beverage options are available?

  • Playbill Dining Room: Complete your theatre experience by booking a delicious lunch, brunch or dinner in our Playbill Dining Room. View schedule and menus 
  • Fireside Lounge: Located in the Playbill Dining Room, the Lounge is fully licensed and open during intermission. Pre-order your drinks at the bar before the show!
  • Concession: Located in the lower lobby and open during intermission for non-alcoholic beverages and light snacks.

            Note: Only bottled water is permitted in the theatre auditorium.

What is your cancellation policy?

Tickets are non-refundable, but you can exchange them for another date with at least 24 hours’ advance notice or receive an account credit. One free exchange per production is included. For subsequent exchanges, a $5 fee applies. Full details here.

What if I miss a show?

Missed performance tickets can’t be exchanged, but you may rebook the same show with “Missed Show Tickets” at 40% off. Call the Box Office to book.

What if I arrive late?

Performances start promptly. If you’re late, we’ll seat you at an appropriate break in seats near the door. After intermission, you may move to your reserved seats.

Can I bring children?

Check each show’s age recommendations. Children must have a ticket and sit with a parent or guardian. Children under 4 are not admitted to Mainstage performances, except for Relaxed Performances or KidzPlay shows.

Is there a dress code?

No. Dress comfortably, though many guests choose business casual.

When should I arrive?

Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before curtain time, or a few minutes before your Playbill Dining Room seating.

Where can I park?

We have a dedicated patron parking lot behind the theatre, plus free street parking nearby.

How do I pick up tickets?

  • Will Call: Pick them up at the Box Office upon arrival
  • E-ticket: Use the tickets sent to your email or access them in your online account.

What if I lose my tickets?

Don’t worry – we can reprint them for free at the Box Office before the show.

How do I get to the theatre?

Our address is 9737 Chemainus Rd, Chemainus, BC.

By car: About 1.5 hours from Victoria, 45 minutes from Nanaimo

Is the theatre accessible?

Yes. There is an elevator to access the upper level of the theatre and the Playbill Dining room.

We also have designated accessible seating areas to accommodate various needs including wheelchairs, walkers, and service dogs. Call the Box Office to ensure we can accommodate your needs comfortably.

Do you have hearing assistance?

Yes. Complimentary headsets are available at coat check, and our Auris Hearing Loop works with most modern hearing aids.

Do you allow service dogs?

Yes, fully certified service dogs are welcome in the theatre. Please call the Box Office to book so that this can be noted in your order and to ensure appropriate seating.  Individuals with service dogs are generally seated in accessible areas of the theatre. Relocation may be needed in the event of allergic reactions from actors or other patrons. Only one service dog per customer is permitted in the theatre.

What is a Relaxed Performance?

These shows create a more casual atmosphere by keeping house lights partially on, reducing sudden sounds, and allowing audience movement. They’re ideal for families with young children or guests with sensory or neurological conditions. More information…

Do you sell Gift Certificates?

Yes! Available in any amount, with no expiry date. Purchase online or by calling the Box Office. They’re a wonderful way to share the gift of live theatre.

Are volunteer opportunities available?

Dining Room Manager

About the Chemainus Theatre Festival:
The Chemainus Theatre Festival is a not-for-profit professional theatre company located on Vancouver Island. Since opening the doors to its 274 seat venue in 1993, annual attendance has grown to over 40,000 patrons per season. In addition to producing live, professional theatre, the Chemainus Theatre experience
also includes the Playbill Dining Room, Fireside Lounge and Gallery Gift Shop.

Position Overview:
The Dining Room Manager is a hands-on position managing day-to-day operations of the 170-seat Playbill Dining Room with the expected outcome of a professional, efficiently run dining room that complements and enhances the Chemainus Theatre Experience.

Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee day-to-day operations of the Playbill Dining Room and ensure high levels of service and hospitality is maintained with regards to patron experience, service quality and food quality.
• Define overall direction of patron experience to dining room staff and ensure that the overall vision of service and hospitality goals is being achieved.
• Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities in the dining room and prepared to fulfil all diningroom duties in the event of staff shortage – host, bussing, seating, bartending, and serving.
• Provide leadership, supervision, training and mentoring to all staff in all areas of the dining experience (hospitality, customer experience, serving protocols, table setup, table manner and dining room systems).
• Provide regular performance feedback to staff regarding individual performance and overall performance of the dining room. Give staff insights into patron feedback and remedy where necessary.
• Schedule dining room staff and dining room musicians to suit business needs.
• Recruit dining room staff when required in accordance with company policy.
• Provide progressive discipline to dining room staff up to and including termination in accordance with company policy.
• Manage catering bookings and dining room rentals.
• Manage the point of sales system and provide staff training as needed.
• Oversee liquor selection, pricing strategy, cocktail selection per show, moving of slow liquor stock and ensuring optimal liquor inventory is maintained.
• Manage and/or perform all administrative duties required for the efficient day -to-day operation of the dining room.

Required Qualifications & Skills:
• Serving It Right certificate.
• Strong leadership and management skills.
• Strong focus on patron satisfaction and problem-solving.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Previous management experience an asset.
• Strong team management skills with the ability to lead, motivate, and develop staff effectively.
• Proficiency in using POS systems for transaction processing and cash handling.
• Ability to focus on enhancing patron experiences.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of service.
• Keen eye for detail
• Flexible schedule that includes working evenings and weekends.
