 About the Chemainus Theatre Festival:

The Chemainus Theatre Festival is a not-for-profit professional theatre company located on Vancouver Island. Since opening the doors to its 274 seat venue in 1993, annual attendance has grown to over 40,000 patrons per season. In addition to producing live, professional theatre, the Chemainus Theatre experience also includes the Playbill Dining Room, Fireside Lounge and Gallery Gift Shop.

Position Overview:

This is an opportunity for a post-secondary student to gain meaningful work experience in a professional arts organization. As a Ticketing & Sales Agent, you will be part of a dynamic department that handles all aspects of Box Office operations including sales, customer service, ticketing, reporting, and marketing. You will be a member of an outstanding customer service team, selling theatre, dining and hotel packages, and facilitating our charitable giving campaigns.

Additional learning opportunities within the Box Office or in other departments may be available, based on the skills and interests of the applicant.

Hours of Work

  • Hours will vary between 20 – 28 hours per week
  • Shifts will be primarily Wednesday – Sunday and will include days, weekends, and some evenings
  • Summer contract dates: June 3 to August 30, 2025
  • Potential to continue after the summer contract, depending on the student’s availability and scheduling needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process all reservations and payments for theatre, dining, subscriptions, hotel packages, gift certificates, and any other marketed packages using Spektrix software
  • Communicate with patrons via phone, email, and in-person in a friendly and informative manner
  • Process and distribute daily reports
  • Responsible for POS operation and daily cash balancing
  • Monitor web sales orders and provide technical support to patrons using the online ticketing system
  • Maintain the patron database, ensuring accurate data-entry
  • Process charitable donations and provide information on campaigns
  • Assist the Box Office Manager with other special projects as needed (i.e. data analysis, research, creating patron communications using DotDigital)

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Exceptional customer service skills, including pleasant phone manner and articulate verbal communication
  • Proficiency in keyboarding and confident using computers, preferably Microsoft Office
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to think clearly while under pressure and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to enter electronic data with speed and accuracy
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Honesty and integrity in dealing with confidential information
  • An appreciation of live theatre

This position is available through the Student Work Placement program (SWP), funded in part by the Government of Canada and facilitated by Culture Works Canada. To be eligible, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a registered student at a Canadian post-secondary institution
  • Be legally allowed to work in Canada
  • Be either a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or a person granted refugee protection under the law
