About the Chemainus Theatre Festival:
The Chemainus Theatre Festival is a not-for-profit professional theatre company located on Vancouver Island. Since opening the doors to its 274 seat venue in 1993, annual attendance has grown to over 40,000 patrons per season. In addition to producing live, professional theatre, the Chemainus Theatre experience also includes the Playbill Dining Room, Fireside Lounge and Gallery Gift Shop.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Patron Services Manager, The Chemainus Theatre Festival Society is seeking a part-time Front of House Coordinator. This position is responsible for the safety and comfort of patron`s before during and after performances. With the assistance of 60 dedicated volunteers
Applicants must be available to work Wednesday to Sunday.
The scheduled hours for this position will vary, depending on the theatre’s production schedule. Hours will range between 4-20 hours per week. Shifts are variable and include days, weekends, and some evenings.
A training period of 2 weeks is required (approx. 20 hours total).
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet and welcome guests as they arrive, ensuring a positive first impression.
- Oversee patron experience on theatre property and meet needs that arise in a professional manner.
- Supervise front of house volunteers that fill front of house positions such as ushers, greeters, and coat check attendants.
- Ensure professional presentation of public spaces and remedy any deficiencies.
- Make public announcements and/or pre-show announcements when required.
- Provide bar and concession services.
- Handle cash and manage POS concession system.
- Provide safety and security services, including first aid.
- In the event of an emergency, the Front of House Coordinator acts as the emergency coordinator when they are on shift at the theatre.
- Write reports pertaining to all Front of House activities and incidences.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Minimum 19 years of age (for alcohol service)
- Emergency first-aid- industry level 1 equivalent or willing to obtain
- Serving it right certification or willing to obtain
- Ability to lift approx. 50 LBS.
- Flexible schedule, able to work mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends if required
- Able to work efficiently under pressure and be comfortable with crowd control
- Able to respond in emergency situations and take charge eg: first aid, security, evacuation or other
- Possess great conflict resolution, interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to delegate, supervise and give direction
- Basic math and cash handling skills. Debit and cash register operations
- Must be very comfortable opening each performance reciting pre show speeches, setting the tone and presenting information to the public
- Must be able to work in a team setting
- Must be receptive to the needs of the public and maintain a level of awareness
- Have a passion for the arts, entertainment and people
