Elf Auditions Local Call
The Chemainus Theatre Festival is dedicated to building a just, equitable, inclusive, diverse, and accessible workplace and community. The Chemainus Theatre Festival is accepting audition submissions for our 2025 production of “Elf: The Musical” directed by Ian Farthing. *As provided for in clause 8:06(V) of the Independent Theatre Agreement, and to improve accessibility for artists from off Vancouver Island, we can accept self-tapes or arrange for an audition via video conferencing in order to accommodate an artist who is unable to attend our auditions in person.
SHOW SUMMARY: Elf the Musical follows Buddy, an orphan raised by elves at the North Pole. Discovering he’s human, Buddy travels to New York City to find his birth father. Despite challenges, Buddy aims to bring his family together and spread Christmas cheer. This modern holiday classic encourages everyone to embrace their inner elf and spread Christmas cheer through song.
CASTING FOR THE FOLLOWING ROLE: MICHAEL/MICHAELA: Buddy’s cheerful stepsibling, quick to embrace Christmas spirit but quietly wishes their dad were more present. Looking for artist Age 12 or older.
PRODUCTION DATES: Rehearsals October 21- November 14, 2025 Performances November 14- December 21, 2025
ACCESSIBILITY INFO: Please be advised that the production design may require artists to modify their hairstyles. Any costs incurred for such changes will be reimbursed by the theatre. However, artists will need to cover the expense of concealing any visible tattoos.
Accessibility considerations on this contract include: – The primary rehearsal hall, the theatre stage and dressing rooms are accessed at ground level – Washroom facilities are accessed at ground level – Wardrobe & props shops and the secondary rehearsal hall are accessed by stairs. The set may involve multiple levels accessed by ladders, steps, or stairs – The theatre audience chamber is steeply raked, upper rows are accessible using the lobby elevator.
TIME COMMITTMENT: This production requires a significant time commitment from all cast members. Rehearsals will take place Tuesday through Sunday, with Mondays off. Performers must be available for eight shows per week, scheduled from Wednesday to Sunday, including matinee and evening performances.
HOW TO SUBMIT: Artists are invited to apply for an audition by emailing the CTF audition team at cm@chemainustheatre.ca with the subject line “Elf Audition-Michael/Michaela” Please send ONE (1) pdf file which includes the following 2 pages (in the order below) Page 1. A recent photo, preferably a close up of your head and shoulders. Page 2. Let us know about any stage experience you may have had, any dance experience (especially if you can tap!), your height, and your current contact details.
