We offer a variety of shows to ensure there is something for everyone at the Chemainus Theatre Festival. Some of our shows are perfect for kids, while others are clearly intended for adult audiences, and sometimes the suitability depends on the maturity of our younger audience members. Please review our brief audience advisories to determine which of our shows is appropriate for you and your guests.

WARNING: Audience Advisories may contain spoilers, as they provide detailed information about potentially offensive content in shows.

THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES

Nostalgic Musical Comedy. Some audience participation. Ages 12+

THE 39 STEPS

Hitchcock meets Hilarious. While the violence is not graphic (especially by today’s standards), characters are shown dying from being stabbed or shot. As was standard in 1930s films, characters smoke cigarettes and pipes. Some tame sexual innuendo, too. Overall, for fans of Hitchcock, and suspense films in general, The 39 Steps is essential viewing. Ages 12+

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Heartwarming Disney Musical. Will appeal to young audience members, especially those familiar with the original movie. The story encourages viewers to look beyond the superficial and to be compassionate, curious, humble, and generous. Ages 5+

GLORY

Based on a True Story. Minor profanity. Recommended age: 9+

JOYFUL NOISE

Historical Drama. Mature content. Ages 12+

ELF: THE MUSICAL

Holiday Musical. Although Elf has some potty language and mild swearing (“pissed,” “hell,” “damn,” etc.) and a few references to bodily functions, it’s family friendly at its core. Ages 7+
